Niagara Falls

Sites & Attractions
- One of the great
wonders of the world
- About
12,000 years ago, Niagara Falls was 11 kilometres (7 miles) downstream
from its present location. Until the early 1950s, the Falls eroded at
the average rate of one metre (3 feet) per year. Since then, major water diversions have spread out the flow more
evenly, slowing the rate of erosion at the Falls.
- The Canadian Falls is approximately
52 metres(170 ft) high.
- The crestline is estimated to
be 675 metres (2200ft) wide.
- The depth of the river at the
base of the falls is actually higher than the falls itself. The river's
depth is estimated at 56 metres (184 ft).
- The flow of water over the crestline
of the falls is estimated at more than 168,000 cubic metres.
- The vast majority of the attractions
which draw millions to the Niagara Region can be found in a green belt
which runs parallel to the Niagara River. The parklands adjacent to
the Niagara River play host to attractions such as the American Falls,
Canadian Falls, Botanical Gardens, Great Gorge Adventure, Niagara Recreational
Trail, Spanish Aero Car
- The famous 'Maid of the Mist'
takes tourists right up to the base of the falls for a close up glimpse
of their awesome power.
- Niagara's other parks and nature
areas include the Niagara Escarpment and Short Hills provincial park.
Hiking on well established nature trails, cascading waterfalls, and
picnic areas can been found into these regions.

over 100 years ago, Niagara's "wine country" is now producing
some of the finest wines in Canada. A revolution of planting and growing
methods have ushered Niagara wines to the international forefront. Within

discover dozens of wineries along Niagara's Wine Route and sample great
Canadian wines including the world-famous 'ice-wine' (not to be missed!).

pace of Niagara Falls, you should visit Niagara-on-the-Lake. The
